"No! Not this time, counselor!" Glorfindel nearly shouted as he snagged
Erestor by the crook of his elbow when the dark elf turned to stalk down
the hallway.
Spinning the other elf around to face him, Glorfindel's eyes were
flashing with anger and frustration as he growled, "You can deny it all
you like, but we both know the truth."
"And what exactly would that be?" Erestor snarled back.
The anger evaporated from Glorfindel's face and his voice dropped low.
"That you love me as much as I love you, and have since the day we met."
Erestor's eyes grew large with surprise and for a moment, he seemed
frozen with shock. Finally, he blinked then started opening and closing
his mouth, but he made no sound. Glorfindel could see that he desperately
wanted to deny the bold statement, but the unmistakable truth was
reflected in the darkling's eyes.
Grasping both of Erestor's arms, Glorfindel slowly pulled the reluctant
elf toward him. Their bodies grew closer and closer, and the nearer they
came to each other, the less Erestor fought against the inexorable pull.
Finally, their bodies were pressed up against one another, their faces
nearly touching as their breath mingled.
"Is there truly any Elf you wish to be closer to than me, Erestor?"
Glorfindel whispered against the other's soft ruby lips.
With a sigh of resignation, Erestor finally capitulated, "Nay, but . .
. I do think you could manage to be closer still, 'Fin," Erestor told him
softly, his meaning clear.
With a grin, Glorfindel closed the tiny distance between them and
pressed his lips against Erestor's quivering mouth.
They both knew that later that night, when they were alone, they would
cross the final threshold and be closer to one another than they had ever
been before. For the moment, though, they were close enough.
